Boletus smithii Thiers Cap 10-16cm across, broadly convex; olive to olive-yellow flushed in part or entirely rose red, especially with age; dry. Tubes yellow. Pores small; bright yellow bruising blue. Stem 100-160 x 10-35mm, equal to swollen; yellowish flushed rose red, especially in upper half. Flesh firm; pale yellow, slightly blue when bruised. Odor pleasant. Taste pleasant. Spores subfusiform, 14-19 x 4-6µ. Deposit olive-brown. Habitat often in large numbers under conifers. Found in the Pacific Northwest and Idaho. Season July-September. Edible.
